Service Description
UCSF ITS is pleased to offer multiple wireless solutions to meet the needs of faculty, staff, students and guests. Wireless access allows connections to the campus network and Internet from many UCSF locations.

Security |
Yes, UCSFwpa is a fully encrypted network that protects from wireless eavesdroppers and provides access to the same UCSF services as the wired campus network. Access to UCSFwpa requires desktop or mobile device configuration and logging in with your AD (computer/email) or MyAccess ID and password. |
No, UCSFguest is an open network for guests visiting our campus. This network is not secure, does not require authentication, and provides services similar to those available in public internet cafés. This is a convenient connectivity method for our guests, eliminating the administrative overhead and departmental staff time previously required in order to provide guest access. |

Configuration |
For computers running Windows (XP, Vista, 7) we recommend using the UCSFwpa installer script to configure your wireless network profile. No special setup is required for the UCSFguest wireless network. Simply select UCSFguest from the list of available wireless networks and you will be connected. Please note that there are restrictions on use of this service. Windows 7 users are recommended to configure the UCSFguest network as a public connection as detailed in the UCSFguest network profile User Guide Use of UCSFguest is not recommended for campus students, faculty, and staff due to its open and unencrypted nature. Visitors using UCSFguest who need secure access to their computing resources should use their respective VPN connections. |
Availability
Wireless service is available for use at all times except when there are scheduled and announced maintenance events.
