Email POP and IMAP Settings
Warning: Accessing UCSF email through locally installed email clients, such as, but not limited to, Outlook for Windows, Outlook for Mac, or Apple Mail, may result in restricted data, including PHI, being stored on your hard drive. ITS reminds users that per the UCSF Minimum Security Standards, all laptops used for UCSF business must be encrypted. Visit this page for more information on encryption.
Desktop Requirements
- POP or IMAP third party desktop email software application
- Must support SSL
- Device (laptop, smartphone, etc) must be encrypted per the UCSF Minimum Security Standard
Limitations of POP or IMAP Access
- Provides access to email only
- Synchronization with the global address book is not supported
- Limited ability to restore email lost from desktop client
- Access to calendaring, public folders, or delegation is not supported
POP and IMAP Configuration Information
All POP and IMAP configurations regardless of email software client use the following settings:
- Incoming Server: mail.ucsf.edu, SSL required over standard ports (POP: 995, IMAP: 993)
- Outgoing (SMTP) Server: mail.ucsf.edu, SSL required over port 465
- Account ID: Email Domain\your account logon ID
