UCSFwpa User Guide for Mac OS 10.7 (Lion)

Apple MacOS X 10.7 detects and auto-configures most of the settings when you attempt to connect to the UCSFwpa wireless network, providing a quick and easy connection.

The few steps you need to take are:

  1. Click on the wireless icon in the top right hand corner of the MacOS X title bar and select UCSFwpa from the list of available wireless networks.

  1. You will be prompted for your username and password to Authenticate to the network "UCSFwpa":
    • enter your MyAccess or mail@UCSF* username and password in their respective fields;
    • Click the Join button to connect to start your wireless connection.

*Also known as an Active Directory (AD)/computer logon account.

Next, you will be presented with a dialog box telling you that even though you have been given a valid security certificate your computer does not explicitly trust it.

  1. Click Show Certificate button to view the security certificate.

The certificate should display the server name: ucsfwpa.ucsf.edu. If any other name is listed click Cancel and check to insure you are connecting to the correct wireless network. If you continue to receive an incorrect server name please report your problem to Customer Support.

  1. On the Verify Certificate screen, verify that the box next to Always trust "ucsfwpa.ucsf.edu" is checked.
  1. Once you have checked the respective boxes, click the Continue button to allow the connection.

Lion requires entry of an administrator username and password to save the UCSFwpa certificate.

  1. Enter in your Mac OS X administrator account and password, Click on Update Settings.

  1. Congratulations! You have successfully set up your UCSFwpa wireless network connection.
