UCSFwpa User Guide for Windows Vista

To successfully connect to the UCSFwpa wireless network, customers with PC's running the Windows Vista Operating System must configure a profile using the Network and Sharing control panel prior to attempting a connection to the wireless network.

  1. From the Start menu, go to Control Panels and open the Network and Internet control panel;
  2. From the Network and Internet control panel, click the link to Manage wireless networks;
  3. In the Manage wireless networks window, clickthe Add button.

  1. At the "How do you want to add a network?" prompt, click "Manually create a network profile".

  1. Enter the following wireless network information:
    • In the Network name field, enter UCSFwpa;
    • For the Security type field, choose "WPA2-Enterprise" from the drop-down menu;
    • For the Encryption type field, choose "AES" from the drop-down menu;
    • Click the Next button to continue.

You have successfully added the UCSFwpa wireless network profile.

  1. Click "Change connection settings" to update the profile properties.

  1. Click the Security tab and configure the following settings:
    • For network authentication method, choose "Microsoft Protected EAP (PEAP)" from the drop-down menu;
    • Click the Settings button to continue.

  1. In the Protected EAP properties window, click on the "validate server certificate" checkbox;
  2. Click the "configure..." button next to the "Secured password..." pull-down menu.

  1. In the EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties window, uncheck the box to "Automatically use my Windows logon name and password”;
  2. Click the OK button.

  1. Click OK 3 times to save UCSFwpa configuration.

A balloon indicating that additional information is needed to connect to UCSFwpa will pop-up from the task bar in the lower right-hand corner of your screen.

  1. Click on the pop-up balloon.

  1. At the Logon Screen:
    • enter your MyAccess or mail@UCSF* username and password;
    • leave the Logon domain field blank;
    • click the OK button.

*Also known as an Active Directory (AD)/computer logon account.

  1. In the Set Network Location screen, choose Work.

If Windows User Account Control (UAC) is enabled on the computer, there will be a pop-up requesting permission to configure UCSFwpa.

  1. Click Continue.

Congratulations! You are now connected to the UCSFwpa wireless network. You can close all Wireless Networking Control Panel windows.
