UCSFwpa User Guide for Windows 7

To successfully connect to the UCSFwpa wireless network, customers with PC's running the Windows 7 Operating System must configure a profile using the Network and Sharing control panel prior to attempting a connection to the wireless network.

  1. From the Start menu, go to Control Panels and open the Network and Internet control panel;
  2. From the Network and Internet control panel, click the link to Manage wireless networks;
  3. In the Manage wireless networks window, click the Add button.

  1. At the "How do you want to add a network?" prompt, click "Manually create a network profile"

  1. Enter the following wireless network information:
    • In the Network name field, enter UCSFwpa;
    • For the Security type field, choose "WPA2-Enterprise" from the drop-down menu;
    • For the Encryption type field, choose "AES" from the drop-down menu;
    • Click the Next button to continue.

You have successfully added the UCSFwpa wireless network profile.

  1. Click "Change connection settings" to update the profile properties.

  1. Click the Security tab and configure the following settings:
    • For network authentication method, choose "Microsoft Protected EAP (PEAP)" from the drop-down menu
    • Click the Settings button to continue

  1. In the Protected EAP properties window, click on the "Validate server certificate" checkbox;
  2. Click on configure next to Secured password pull-down.

  1. In the EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties window, uncheck the box to "Automatically use my Windows logon name and password”;
  2. Click the OK button;
  3. Click the OK button again to get back to the UCSFwpa Wireless Network Properties.

  1. On UCSFwpa Wireless Network Properties click the Advanced Settings button.

  • In the Advanced settings window:
  • Check the box next to "Specify Authentication mode";
  • Choose "User authentication" from the drop-down menu;
  • Click the Save credentials button to store your Active Directory username and password.

  1. In the Windows Security dialog box, enter your MyAccess or mail@UCSF* username and password;
  2. Click the OK button 3 times to close the UCSFwpa Wireless network profile.

*Also known as an Active Directory (AD)/computer logon account.

  1. In the Set Network Location screen, choose Work network

  1. Congratulations! You are now connected to the UCSFwpa wireless network. You can close all Wireless Networking Control Panel windows.
